Can you read his necklace? It says AFRICA.
And in a few short months my boys and I will be heading over there.
To Nigeria.
I still can’t believe it is happening.
My grandparents are missionaries there - and have been for a long, long time.
My mum lived there until she left for college and has only been back a few times in the past 30 years.
I spent the year after I completed highschool living in Nigeria with my grandparents.
It was life changing.
My mum is going over this November and when I told Paul in a wishful thinking sort of way how fun I thought it would be to be in Nigieria with my mum he said we’d make it happen.
And, after much prayer, it is happening.
This past week I have gotten all of my vaccines needed for travel.
My anti malaria pills are currently sitting on our kitchen counter.
The boys have appointments with the international travel doctor the middle of July.
Passport forms are filled out and ready to go in.
I have talked with a travel agent – who has not only given me invaluable information about direct flights from Atlanta to Nigeria (who knew!?!) but he also found prices cheaper than I could find myself.
I am looking at being there for 5 weeks.
5 short weeks in my beloved third home with my grandparents.
5 long weeks away from my love.
While Paul will be greatly missed I am thankful he has encouraged this adventure.
I am so excited to travel with the boys and to introduce them to a new culture of beautiful people.
And I am excited to finally be sharing this with everyone.
Good secrets are meant to be shared.
Sharing on Chatting at the Sky

That is so exciting! A life-changing experience for you and your boys. I pray you will have a great time visiting with your family, too!
Now God. Tell me why missions is foremost in my thoughts and reading lately, please?
Thank you so much! I appreciate it.
It is exciting and scary, but I am so looking forward to the eye opening experience it will be for my boys to see beyond their own culture!
That is so exciting!! I grew up in India and I would LOVE to take my husband and boys to my old stomping grounds…someday!
What an amazing opportunity! May the Lord bless each one of you in your travels and may He give each of you a heart for serving Him wherever He would have you go!!!
We are with Wycliffe and are thrilled to be part of the work of Bible translation. My husband and I and are 7 kids will be moving to Texas (soon, Lord willing) to work at their Linguistics Center in Dallas – eventually doing some overseas missions work with Wycliffe as well.
We also have lots of family that has served the Lord in missions full-time. What an amazing heritage to pass on to our kids – oh, that we may be faithful as well!
Neat! I am very familiar with Wycliffe!
My grandpa, who was born in Nigeria as his parents were missionaries there, made the tribal language into a written language. I think that is so incredible and such a challenge to grow up with such a rich heritage.
My mum just shared with me the poem my grandpa wrote to my grandma when he proposed to her asking her to share in his work overseas and it is so beautiful – I will share it on here soon.
Thanks for the kind comment!
oh, i love this and have just a teensy amount of jealousy… but mostly just that this is a wonderful chance to reconnect w/ family and be present in a way that He orchestrates.
i also loved reading the comments; my best friend was an MK growing up in morrocco and her parents were wycliffe translators. it makes me miss her, too.
prayers for a safe trip!
Time spent in Africa changes North Americans in profound ways. My husband and I have never been the same since a 3-week short term mission in Uganda. Our hearts belong to Africa and we have plans for long-term (life) missions.
ok. I'm caught up. Very exciting. Praying His overwhelming blessing over this trip. Maybe seeds will even be planted in those two little hearts that will be observing much.
Thank you thank you! I am excited about this, and the only sad part is my husband isn't able to come along
I hope it will be a foundation in our boys lives and we are praying it starts a passion in their lives for missions.
