Library Day – week 2
2013
Some favorite books from the week.
Two Bad Ants by Chris Van Allsburg is a fun adventure of two little ants that steal away from the rest of the ants and have all sorts of adventures (in a kitchen) from an ant-sized perspective. (Author of The Polar Express.)
By The Light of the Captured Moon by Julian Scheer is a fun, whimsical, dream like story about a boy wanting to capture – and then hide – the moon.
A Year in a Castle by Rachel Coombs is an interesting picture book of the changes a castle goes through in a year. I didn’t understand why, with it’s month by month categorizing, it skipped two months entirely; but it’s pictures are interesting and detailed and the boys enjoyed having it read and then just looking through the pictures.
100 Things You Should Know About Gladiators by Rupert Matthews is amazing. Amazing amazing. One that has been added to my wish-list of books to own. (I have caught my husband sitting down and reading through it!) It is full of pictures (perhaps more gruesome than some would be comfortable with) and details about Gladiators (again, some gruesome.) Its bite sized chunks of information are just right for learning about these men and the hardships they endured and the culture that they lived in.

Thanks for these posts! We’ve been looking for some new picture books. I’ve got a good handle on what my oldest daughter will like but sometimes have a hard time with new ideas for my boys as they are getting a bit older (they will be turning 4 and 5 in a few weeks). So great to hear what you are enjoying.
