DSC_1394In our homeschool this week …

IMG_0998…a happy time when daddy came home from a military training weekend…

DSC_1163… and lots of time spent playing. This weather is gorgeous and we are thoroughly enjoying spending time outside before the heat becomes unbearable.

My favorite thing about our week …

IMG_1034…we do one on one dates with the boys two times a year – in the Spring I get Wesley and in the Fall I get Judah. It’s a highly anticipated and special time, and it happened this week. Wes and I spent Monday together, enjoying each others company and getting to know each other a little better.

IMG_1059And more school-ish related some favorite things this week included finding this collecting of Magic Tree House books for $3 total at the thrift store. Judah has listened to all of them on audio book, but I thought he might enjoy reading them too once he’s ready. {if you aren’t familiar with the Magic Tree House books I would recommend them in audio book form for a child to listen to or for a young reader. They cover a wide assortment of historical characters and events and are great for helping children feel familiar with characters you plan on studying later on.}

IMG_1073And this. Oh this. I am hoping to help Wesley build the concept of yesterday, today and tomorrow and we’ve been working on this little book each day this week and I think it might just be working!

My boys favorite thing this week …
DSC_1321One activity the boys really enjoyed was photographing flowers – our backyard has a beautiful assortment of flowers – all due to the previous owners. I had the boys each take a camera and photograph as many different types of flowers as they could find. It is fun to see them notice the differences in the flowers and grow their curiosity about nature.
Next week I hope to go through the flowers they photographed and identify each one. If I can figure out what all the flowers are myself.DSC_1191DSC_1385And while it probably goes without saying, being outside is always their favorite thing, about any week!

DSC_1265Fun with learning …
DSC_1298DSC_1299It hit me a few weeks ago what an ingenious game BINGO is. It requires quick number recognition, paying attention, being honest, following horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines AND it is super fun! I have been usingthis site to print free BINGO cards.

I’m Reading …

A book recommended by a friend called Better Late Than Early, in which the author makes a case for not hurrying education with children. It’s good. Although he attempts to include all parenting scenarios, I don’t really feel like it is seasoned with grace for those who do not keep their children at home. {and it isn’t that he is pro-homeschooling so much as encouraging parents to keep their children at home until they are about 8 years of age.}

A thought to share …butterfly1
