2013
In our homeschool this week …
Paul had no work this week, so we made the best of it and spent a great deal of time with friends. Wednesday and Thursday we went away overnight to visit some dear friends, and the other days we surrounded ourselves with friends; at our home or in theirs. Hours spent lingering over meals or laughing together over games. I am so thankful for friendships. There is so much to be learned through the interaction with others; things that are not so easily learned from a book.
So our lessons this week were simple; copy work and reading mostly. And the rest was relational and exploring outdoors.
My favorite thing about this week…
Our friends had three dogs and my boys fell in love. It was so precious to watch my rambunctious, wild 4 year old snuggle contently on the couch with a dog in his lap.
The beautiful sunsets we’ve been having – and being outside to enjoy them – has been another highlight of the week.
Things I am working on…
I need to backup all my computer files and reformat my hard drive. My laptop is so old and so slow and is one day going to just die. I am two months behind on backing things up, so it needs to be done this week!
I have also been reading a lot about integrating school and outdoors – I am a pretty big wimp and I’m not sure I could do it in cold weather, but with things warming up I am really drawn to the idea of creating a learning space outdoors and spending a lot of time outside doing school.
And this week I finished two projects – printed and framed some pictures and made a protective ‘nest’ for my camera in a regular purse. I wish I had the skills to be able to share how to do it … I totally improvised, but there are a lot of tutorials available online if you search pinterest or google for them.
These triple chocolate chunk muffins are amazing! With Greek yogurt, apple sauce, cocoa and oatmeal as the main ingredients they combine to make an incredibly moist and flavorful muffin. I have made them twice this week already. {and I halve the sugar. you may not want to though.}
A thought to share…
A child draws inspiration from the casual life around him. The thought of any of our poor words and ways being a daily influence on a child should make the best of us want to hold our breath. – Charlotte Mason
