Homeschool Journal 2/8/13
2013
In our homeschool this week …
It has been a simple week – we worked towards our mastery of skills, which is what is guiding our school this year. I really enjoy this style. It’s been good for all of us – very relaxed and yet very focused at the same time.
I have been evaluating where we are at – they can count to 100, but cannot tie a shoelace. They can run a mile, but can’t yet tell the time on an analog clock.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
We aren’t going anywhere today – it’s family movie day {the boys FAVORITE day!} We’ll snuggle in Paul’s office {his computer has a big screen … with no TV it’s the best we’ve got!} and eat yummy snacks. And then late, late tonight my brother and a couple of his friends will be here. {Marines.} They are getting ready to deploy, it’ll be sweet to see him before he goes.
My favorite thing about this week…
I was up late working on a couple projects, and on my way to bed – about 1 am – I slipped into the boys room and gave them each a kiss. As I walked out of their room I heard a “mommy! mommy!” I turned around and was surprised to see Judah with his arms out stretched for a hug. I asked him why he was awake and he said with a sleepy smile; “I felt you touch me and I knew it wasn’t a part of my dream.” melted my heart.
My boys favorite thing this week…
I am pretty sure their favorite thing was my thrift store find of Minotaurus {for SEVENTY CENTS!} We have played it a couple times. It’s fun. Worth way more than .70 cents! {really – it’s going to become a fun part of our school next year when we study the Ancients.}
A close second is the nature walk we did last weekend {see more on that here.} They can’t wait to do one again and I am hoping to do it this weekend.
Things I am working on…
We’ve been offered some new {to us} furniture. We’ll go pick it up in a couple weeks, but I have been considering how we can rearrange rooms in our house to make the rooms function better for us.
I’m cooking…
I haven’t decided what all to cook for the marines coming this evening – they aren’t staying long, so there isn’t much to prepare, but I am wanting to do some homemade goodies for them.
A photo to share…
Yesterday I read this convicting post – Embracing Your Role as Wife & Mom for What It Is. {it’s good!} and it reminded me of David Livingston’s quote;
People talk of the sacrifice I have made in spending so much of my life in Africa…Is that a sacrifice which brings its own blest reward in healthful activity, the consciousness of doing good, peace of mind, and a bright hope of a glorious destiny hereafter? Away with the word in such a view, and with such a thought! It is emphatically no sacrifice…

Oooh, love family movie days! We have such a hard time finding ones we can watch though that are appropriate….we should put together a list! ;0)
Praying for your bro as he leaves! And thanks for the great ideas last year for working on different characters – we did obedience last month, it went REALLY well! This month it’s diligence in all things (and putting away what we take out – it’s driving me nutso!).
Also love that nature walk list – but I think we’d need no snow to pull it off as everything is pretty much buried, haha!
