2013
A local church was holding a special series this week on the Tabernacle, so we spent some time this week exploring the Tabernacle. I will eventually compile a list of useful resources to help in teaching children about the Tabernacle – a few months ago we taught our middle school Sunday School class about it and found some neat ideas to help teach children about the Tabernacle. It is such an important thing to teach our children, and I am thankful for those who put on the special series this week.
Lots of books have been read this week – my two favorite were Swords; an Artists Devotion by Ben Boos and Raggedy Ann & Andy Giant Treasury. The sword one is beautiful and informative. The Raggedy one a collection of stories that encourage noble character and loving others.
Last week I shared our struggles with shoe lace tying and time telling – two friends shared their ideas for teaching those skills and we’ve made headway on learning these skills this week. {I’ll definitely be sharing future struggles – I love hearing other’s ideas!}
My favorite thing about this week…
My Valentine’s gift was the promise of an entire afternoon to myself – in my own house – while he takes the boys out, wears them out, brings them home, feeds them, and puts them to bed; all while I get to work on some of my many projects by myself. Seriously, I don’t care how pathetic any single person finds this – it’s pretty much the most romantic gift ever right now. The fulfillment of this gift is happening this afternoon and I am rather excited about that!
{unrelated … but my Valentine’s gift to Paul was this Timeline Game. There are a few cards that get into the millions of year old earth, but otherwise it is super fun and we have enjoyed playing with it.}
My boys favorite thing this week…
Our neighbor gave each boy their own box of chocolate. She might as well of handed them the moon. They are ecstatic. Even if they only get to eat one piece a day.
Things I am working on…
This afternoon I will be taking a look at where we are in school, and how to get where I want us to be. I’ve got some blog posts to write, some letters to write, some chapters of a book I want to read, and some other projects I hope to get started.
I’m cooking…
Paul picked up a cute little pan that makes heart shaped eggs – it made for an adorable Valentine’s morning breakfast {it’s tradition – every Valentine’s morning we do chocolate milk and heart shaped pancakes. I put it on my Google Calendar, and have it send me a notice 1 week before the event each year … otherwise I’d forget the tradition!}
A photo to share…

Can you explain the game a bit more? It sounds neat! Is it historical events to be put in order?
Yes, that’s exactly how it is
They have a variety of “sets.” We bought the basic one which covers several different things in History, but there are sets that cover just history, one does discoveries, I think another is inventions.
You take turns trying to place them correctly in the timeline.
The cards are small – about half the size of a normal playing card.
And one other “negative” to the cards is that they don’t have any further information about the fact on the card – it would have been nice if they’d give a sentence or two.

Sounds like a wonderful week! Would you mind sharing your shoe tying tip? We are in the trenches with learning this skill as well

The method is called “Magic Fingers” – I haven’t yet found a clip that CLEARLY explains it.
I am hoping for success by the end of the weekend!
It has been a bit tricky for me to relearn, however I think it is a much simpler way to teach children
