Homeschool Journal 1/11/13
2013
In our homeschool this week …
We officially started back at school this week after a lengthy holiday break – only for it to be interrupted with a two day jaunt down to Florida where Paul had a class he had to take.
We went along and had time to explore together on the second day.
Sandy beaches with interesting rocks made of sea shells and a 200 + year old forts were among the things explored while in Florida.
{Washington Oaks Gardens State Park and Fort Matanzas.}
We also listened to a really fascinating Dear America book on the Spanish Flu Epidemic and the Shaker community. You can read a bit more about it and see other of our favorite chapter books for boys here.
Things I’m working on …
Preparing for a birthday party for the 6 year old at the end of the month, de-cluttering the house, and browsing curriculum choices for next school year. I kinda want to repeat kindergarten forever. I love this age!
I’m cooking …
Pioneer Woman’s Buffalo Chicken Salad. It is easy. It is delicious. I have made it twice this week – and two days this week I didn’t even make meals as we were out of town. I just love it!
I’m grateful for …
Two days together with my three guys and celebrating Paul’s birthday. I love that man!
A quote to share …
I have shared this recently, but I enjoy it a lot and have thought about it several times over the past few days;
Joy is a decision, a really brave one, about how you are going to respond to life.

What a perfect week. I can’t imagine what is better than a fantastic field trip to enhance one’s education.
Blessings, Dawn
Thanks Dawn – and I agree, it was quite perfect!
Thanks for sharing the quote about joy. I needed that this week!
Your welcome. I have needed it too!
LOVE.THE.QUOTE. Going up in our home!! Dear America books have been a favorite in our home with two of our children. Now our 12 yr old has graduated to adult historical fiction (christian perspective, mostly). Enjoyed this post!
