{it’s here!} The Genealogy of Jesus Christ

genealogy-of-jesus-webThis series on the characters in the genealogy of Jesus Christ has been updated  and can be found on the above menu bar under “Genealogy of Jesus” or simply by clicking here.

These are the stories we use in our advent reading – one story a day from December 1 through Christmas day. We have done this for a couple years now, and I just completed rewriting the series this Fall.

The pdf is coming – it will make it easy to print off the stories all together – should be done before December 1. I am competing with Biology, Physics and Chemistry for my husbands attention and help with the technical aspects (!)

Many thanks for the kindness of those who have encouraged me through this and offered helpful feedback. It was daunting to write the stories in the first place. Even more so to go back and edit my own work. {I really just need an editor!}

I love looking at these stories back to back. We can see through the generations that pass how each individual had their own responsibility before God to seek Him and obey Him; and how devastating it was when they chose instead to reject Him as God. I am struck again and again at the very ordinary, broken people that God used to bring about His greater purpose. There are prostitutes. A king that set up idols in God’s temple. Men with tempers. All these characters appear in the family tree of Jesus Christ, and it is amazing to read the stories, generation after generation, of the depravity and emptiness of man.

It is incredible to look at the line of sinners that mark His family tree. Truly, we are in desperate need of a Savior.

In reflecting upon the family line in which Jesus Christ was associated with, it is all the more incredible to look at whom He came to save.

“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” – 1 Timothy 1:15

These stories. These people. They are us. Sinners, in need of a Savior.

It is the greatest love story that was ever told – that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

I hope these stories encourage your thoughts towards the goodness of God and of His extravagant love for us through sending His Son, Jesus Christ so that we could be sinners forgiven by the finished work of Jesus Christ.

  1. Thanks so much again for this series. My husband was saved only in the last year and now has been wanting to increase his knowledge. We just finished a course at our church together and weren’t quite sure what to do next as things get busy until the end of the year. He hasn’t read a lot of the Bible, especially old testament stuff – I think this will be what we go through together next to give him a taste of it:)
