Earlier this week I found a copy of the dvd I had made of Judah’s first year of life.  I sat down with the boys and we watched it together – Wesley promptly declaring it boring due to the fact that he wasn’t in it.

But watching that movie made me wish I had kept up the habit of making them a video each year. They grow up so fast and while I am not trying to hold on to the stages that have passed it is so precious to sit with them as bigger people and watch themselves as littler people.

I’ve got the picture taking thing down – they’ve got thousands and thousands of photographs of themselves from every day life to sitting pretty handsome.

Those pictures make it into a photobook on each birthday {STILL working on Wesley’s from almost 3 months ago.}

But watching that video made me realize how much I cherished it – the sound tracks from that stage in life, the captions, the little boy. So all those home videos I take and stash away in my “Movie” folder? They need to somehow make it to a DVD, all coordinated together. So that one day, 4 years from now, we’ll stumble upon them at 3 and 4 and laugh and smile and get a little teary eyed about how little they once were. Or maybe they will only be the ones laughing and I will be the only one teary eyed.

I collect all the funny little snippets of things they say. I have made one photobook with such sayings. The bathroom the boys share with company has a wall covered with some of their funnies.

I have discovered the most efficient manner of recording such information – start a new email, put “*Child’s Name* Funny Things 2011″ in the subject bar and save it in the Draft folder of your email.
Every time the child says something funny open that draft email and add the snippet in.

You will never lose this information as it will be backed up online and you should be able to access your email from pretty much anywhere so will be able to update anytime.

I have hundreds of funny little things they’ve said and I love that it is all in one place!

It’s been awhile since I shared a collection of their funny sayings – here are some more recent favorites :

Wesley: “Mommy, my tummy hurts because you don’t feed me enough cookies.”

Wesley: Do I have two flip flops because I am two years old?
Me: No, you have two flip flops because you have two feet.
Wesley: OHHH! {pause} Why do I have two feet?
Me: Because you have two legs.

Judah: “Mommy, supper was really yummy but my tummy didn’t think so so I don’t think you should make me eat that again.”

Overheard Judah to Wesley: “NO WESLEY! Naked boys ARE NOT allowed to look at books. If you want to read some books you need to put some clothes on.”

Me: “Judah, I don’t want you to grow bigger. I always want to be able to cuddle you on my lap.”
Judah: “But mommy, I will grow bigger. And when I am as big as daddy I will cuddle YOU on MY lap!”

Me: “Judah, I love you. You are mine.”
Judah: “I know. I am your egg and daddy’s sperm.”

While reading a beautiful description of snow blanketing trees I told the boys to close their eyes and imagine what I was reading. When I finished I asked them if they were able to “see” what I had been reading.
Judah: “No… when you said ‘snow’ all I could see was a snowman. And the more you read about snow the bigger that snowman grew in my mind.”

Judah: You know why I love daddy?
Me: Why?
Judah: Because he shares his camera with me and it makes me feel like a man.

Me: “Judah, would you please help me put away the things on the stairs?”
Judah: “Yes, but only if you kiss me first.”
Me: “We are going to have nap time today with a real nap since we’ll be out late tonight.”
Judah, straight faced and serious: “That genuinely breaks my heart mommy.”

Wesley got out of the pool and came crying to me, telling me he was all wet and needed new swim shorts.
I told him of course he was all wet – he’d just gotten out of the pool.
Crying he said; “No, I all wet because I peed myself!”

Wesley, two minutes into eating lunch: “Excuse me mommy, but my spoon has my germs all over it now. Can I please use your spoon to finish my food?”

Wesley, wearing kneepads “are these knee pads to keep my knees from falling off?”

I complimented Wesley on his manliness and told him how much I appreciated how well he took care of me.
He smiled and agreed; “I know mommy – I know how to turn the light switch on so you are never in the dark!”

Me: “Thank you for doing that for me manly man.”
Wesley: “You are so welcome manly mommy!”

Wesley: “When I grow up you can be the princess on my firetruck.”

Me to Judah: “I love you cutie sugar pot pie.”
Wesley, politely: “Excuse me please mama, please don’t call my brother names.”
Judah, yelling: “NO!! SHE CAN CALL ME ANYTHING SHE WANTS TO! DON’T EVER TELL HER NOT TO!”
