After seeing what Amanda from The Hand Me Down House did with glass, modge podge and food coloring I had to try it out too. I have ideas of creating a stained glass-like window in one of the rooms in our house but am starting with smaller projects to make sure I like the look.

I picked up this glass dish at the Thrift Store for .99 cents.

Next I added a bit of green to the already blue Modge Podge and immediately applied a second coat – I liked that color better than the solid blue.

I put the dish in the oven at the lowest temperature for about 20 minutes.

But check it out once it dried:

I applied the paint to the outside so it is food safe, but I think it is pretty with the light shining through it.

My next Modge Podge Stained Glass project was to use an actual window – an old window a friend had given me for crafting with.

I had some friends over and we each used a different technique and a different color to apply the paint.

I used my heat gun to dry the paint – and as you can see from the picture I wasn’t concerned with getting paint all over the window frame. This project was simply a test to see what finish and color I like best for the bigger project I am dreaming of for a real window in our house.

The picture doesn’t do the glass justice – it really does look very pretty when held in front of light. The blue color and texture is my favorite and is the one I am thinking of going with for the real window. I have a bit more testing to do – I need to make sure I can get consistent results so each pane will look the same and I have ideas for using a razor and black paint on the pane to give it more of a genuine stained glass look.
