Lego Door Countdown to Christmas

lego-christmas-countdown1A couple weeks ago my oldest asked me if I was all ready with this years countdown to Christmas. He is kind of the person I wish I was – organized, thinking way in advance, prepared.

At that time I hadn’t considered what to do, but his wondering got me thinking about what I wanted to do this year. In the past we have done a simple gum countdown and we have done daily Christmas activity bags to countdown and we have followed the genealogy of Christ through the month of December as a countdown. I will be using some of those elements again this year, but in honor of their great love of Lego I decided to make a Lego door countdown for this year!

This cool little structure has 24 doors or windows, each with its own little cubby space. My boys taught me this cool Lego trick and I implemented it throughout the building:legoI included a noise making Lego block too – it took the boys a little while before they discovered it, and having never seen a noise making Lego block before they were pretty amazed by it!

My plan is to spend the rest of this month writing up our list of activities for the month of December; one thing each day from December 1 – 24th. The activities will be written on tiny pieces of paper and behind each door will be our daily activity.

I still need to figure out a way to identify each days door and also decorate the Lego Christmas trees on top!
lego-christmas-countdownIf you have a Lego-lovin’ child this is a pretty straightforward countdown to create – you will need enough doors and/or windows, and then enough bricks to build the cubby holes. If the child was old enough {or you weren’t wanting to build it as a surprise – my boys have seen it but don’t yet know what it is for!} you could task the child with building this and then just fill it yourself.

  1. I love this! Might be something for me to plan for next year – I believe we have a total of two doors and four windows so I’ll have to keep an eye out for more:)

      1. Thanks for the tip! I was planning on increasing our lego collection this Christmas so that’s where I’ll look!
