The First Lost Tooth :: documented
Saturday at noon. He had been proudly wiggling that tooth of his for weeks and as we were heading out to a wedding I stopped to document that loose tooth (you can barely see his tongue pushing the tooth forward.)
Same Saturday. About 4pm. He had been so careful to avoid hard foods like apples (which is how I’d lost my first tooth!) and that afternoon he walked outside with a recorder in his mouth. He accidentally banged into the door, which jarred the recorder against his tooth, knocking it loose.
He proudly came to show us this new gap. His last connection to babyhood has now started to fall out. He grew up so much with that cute little gap. I asked him what he wanted to do with his tooth. He told me he was just going to go throw it in the trash. I know I should have encouraged that, seeing as he is my child that likes to hold onto things, but I encouraged him to place his tooth under the pillow just to see.
He wasn’t fond of that idea since the tooth had had some blood on it, so we found this to place it in instead. (And to be noted:: we have never done Santa, tooth fairy, Easter bunny or any of that with the boys. They know about them all and know how other families incorporate the characters into their families, but it’s just not a part of our family culture.)
I couldn’t not celebrate this momentous occasion, so while he slept the tooth was replaced with glitter and a $1 bill.
Washi “Congrats” tape from Michaels. Perfect for sealing rolled up bills.

At least he didn't swallow it like you did!
