Dear Judah -

I so enjoy seeing the world through your eyes. I have never been a little boy before. You are fascinating. Sometimes I wish I was a six year old girl so we could be best friends and play together in a world of make believe and pipe cleaner crafts – but being your mom is even better. I get to be your friend and your mommy. I get to play make believe, receive the pipe cleaner jewelry you craft, snuggle you for stories and kiss you goodnight … and it’s been that way for six delightful years.

SIX! 6! You have survived six years as the object of your parents trial and error. You have taken the role of first child with grace – forgiving us our mistakes and passionately cheering us on through the good. As your parents we are so thankful for your consistent encouragement – to have your child be one of your biggest cheerleaders is a very special privilege, and something I cherish deeply.

You have taken to heart  one of your memory verses; “Encourage one another and build each other up.” And it is such a joy to hear you sing that, and other verses, as you go about your every day busy-ness of being boy. But it is an even greater joy to see where God is working on your own heart and molding your life to reflect Him.

I like you. I like you a lot. I like the way that your laugh bubbles out from the core of your being. I like the way that you always say “pardon?” rather than “what?” {… and yet you often forget more basic manners like adding a “please” when you request something.}

I like the way you encourage your parents and brother with uplifting words and heartfelt compliments. I like the way you discipline yourself to tasks, working a little bit every day towards a bigger purpose; like trying to do pull ups, push ups, or listen through the audio Bible.
I like your inquisitive mind and your desire to understand the how and the why. I like how you’re in the stage of loosing your baby teeth and you constantly wiggle the baby teeth, hoping to help them along.

This past year you discovered that super heroes aren’t real … and you’ve decided to become the first real super hero. You’ve also made a list of other things you wish to invent, things you think the world needs; second only to you learning the secret of flying you want to create real light sabers that good guys can use to fight bad guys. Light sabers that only good guys can touch.

Judah – each and every year gets better and better. You are passionate, creative, interesting, and fun. And mine. I am thankful that God has given you to daddy and me to raise into a man that is “a brave man and a warrior. Who speaks well and is a fine looking man. And the Lord is with him.” {1 Samuel 16:18}

Happy birthday darling! I am so looking forward to getting to know the six year old you.

xoxo
