Good-Morning :: day 15
2012
It’s a simple thing, but one I think that makes a big difference upon waking up each morning. Communicate with our children that we’re happy to see them when they wake up {or when they wake us up!} and greet them with a heartfelt and cheery ‘Good-morning! I am so happy to see you today!’
Take the time to share what you’re excited about for the upcoming day and what you are thankful for and spread some good-morning cheer in the first few moments of the day.
Choosing joy starts with small steps – and joyful morning greetings are a great start to joyful days; for the giver of the good-morning and for the receiver of!

A few years ago I read or heard someone talking about what our facial expressions communicate to our kids. Sometimes if we are sitting thinkging about something serious we can get a very serious or scowly look on our face. If our kids are near us or walk into the room at that time, they do not necissarily know that the look is not meant for them. I don't remember most of the discussion but I do remember that the idea of conciously changing your facial expression so that you light up whenever you look at your kids was discussed. Since then whenever my kids walk into a room or if they are with me already then whenever I look at them, I make an effort to smile with a smile that reaches my eyes and the rest of my face so that they know how happy I am that they are there. The idea of a happy good morning greeting flowed naturally out of that so now when my kdis wake I stop whatever I am doing so that I can greet them with a hug, a kiss and a quick chat about their sleep and the day ahead. This has a huge impact on our mornings!
I have heard something about the facial expressions too … but I can\’t recall where or what it was!!
And it\’s encouraging to hear it\’s had such a positive impact on your family. There are so many little, practical things that I think help promote harmony and joy – it really is the little things!!
Ouch. Convicted. Thank you. Majority of days, yes, this is what happens, but there are days (like today) when the weariness of life overshadows the joy of each new day. Thank you for this….needed it tonight (for tomorrow since I blew it today!). Pls (continually) ask me how I am doing with this when you see me…..
If only we could wake up with Lamentations 3 on our mind each morning – \”Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.\”
