QUOTES AND VERSES ON SELF CONTROL FOR MEMORY AND COPY WORK

self-control-2Our habit focus in the month of May is self-control. We are defining self control as the ability to control the expression of our passions and emotions. We have enjoyed some great conversations about what this means and how we have seen this displayed well or poorly in characters from our stories. We recently read through some stories about monks and their self imposed disciplines and those stories contributed a lot to the conversations about self control.
Our hymn for this month is Like A River Glorious and our copy work and memory work for the habit of self control are as follows ::
self-control-1A man without self control is like a city broken into and left without walls. -Proverbs 25:28

self-control-5Every athlete exercises self control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 1 Corinthians 9:25

self-control-3Patience and care are better teachers than a bad tempter. – from the book Door in the Wall

self-control-4I cannot trust a man to control others if he cannot control himself. – Robert E Lee

self-control-6Distinguish between real need and artificial wants and learn to control the latter. – Gandhi
